Biography

Hi everyone! My name is Brooke Shafar and I am an e-Learning Specialist in the Office for Teaching and Learning who is currently working remotely from Kentucky. Before joining the OTL, I received my PhD in German Studies in 2016 and have taught German language and culture courses in both face-to-face and online formats. During that period of my career, I developed an interest in finding ways to integrate technology and games of various sorts effectively into one’s teaching – both topics that I continue to explore as part of my role in the OTL.

As an e-Learning specialist, I work with instructors via consultations and mid-semester assessments (MAPs), design and facilitate webinars and other programming with my OTL colleagues, and create instructional guides and resources.

When I am not working for the OTL, I can usually be found reading in cozy nooks, playing nerdy games, discussing all things Star Wars, baking tasty treats, or spending time with the fur babies in my life.
