How many German faculty does it take . . .? Creating an online culture course as a team
In the summer of 2019, the German area of CMLLC (Dr. Nicole Coleman, Dr. Mark Ferguson, Dr. Lisabeth Hock, Dr. Julie Koehler, Dr. Anne Rothe) received an OTL Educational Development Grant and a CLAS Online Course Development Grant to develop an on-line version of the German area's new cultural survey course, Resistance, Rebellion, Revolution: Transitional Moments in German Culture and History (GER 2710). Our goal was not only to create this course together but also to highlight the areas of expertise of the different members of our area. The course is being taught for the first time this semester. In this presentation, Dr. Ferguson, Dr. Hock and Dr. Koehler will discuss the planning and design process, things that went well and challenges we faced, the role of the course in our curriculum and department, and how the course is going so far.

Avoiding the "Efficacy Cliff": Strategies for supporting EdTech use by later-adopting faculty
There is evidence that the efficacy of educational technology innovations declines over time. One likely partial explanation for this lies in "Isomorphic pressures," or pressure to be similar to others, which can lead faculty members to adopt educational technologies as they become more mainstream, though the faculty members may not not necessarily be committed to or well trained in the technology and the pedagogy that supports it. In this session, we'll focus on ways to support later-adopting faculty related to educational technologies.
